In recent years, the expansion of adult cochlear implant (CI) candidacy criteria and increased insurance coverage have led to a significant rise in the number of adults pursuing cochlear implants.  As a result, more adults with hearing loss are seeking information and considering cochlear implantation, driving up the demand for audiology and surgical CI team services.

Additionally, many of these new candidates are actively employed and deeply involved in their communities, making it more challenging for them and their support systems to attend lengthy pre-operative appointments. Given these challenges, it is important to ensure patients receive efficient care that accommodates their busy schedule. Join Sara M. Misurelli, AuD, PhD, CCC-A, an expert in audiology and cochlear implantation, where we will explore the cochlear implant process, focusing on how we can:

  • Understand basic information on cochlear implants.
  • Understand new adult CI candidacy criteria (Medicare) as more people are qualifying based on insurance coverage guidelines.
  • Understand what it takes to qualify for a CI.
  • Streamline the CI pre-operative care process to reduce time and burden for patients.
  • Discuss the latest cochlear implant technologies and their benefits.
  • Understand expectations during the implantation process.
  • Highlight the importance of aural rehabilitation and support services for cochlear implant recipients.
  • Address insurance coverage for cochlear implants and how to navigate the complexities of coverage for adult patients.

Who Should Attend?
This session is perfect for individuals considering cochlear implants, family members, and anyone interested in the evolving field of cochlear implantation.
